A lengthy final meeting of the trialogue (a negotiation between the European Commission, Parliament, and Council) in Brussels reached a political consensus on the AI Act on last Friday. This marks a significant step towards creating a binding legal framework for AI in the EU. Focusing on risk prevention, safety, quality, and fundamental rights, while also encouraging technological innovation and investment. This move is very much in line with the EU's ambition to be a frontrunner in tech regulation. There's a saying that while "the US innovates, the EU regulates," and this Act seems to embody that ethos.
